I use to watch this growing up. One of my mom's favs that we would watch around Christmas time every year. So many memories surround this movie for me.
I totally agree! In our strong anti-communist and anti-nazist family this movie has been known to us children since we were 3 or 4 y.o. The apalling thing is that right now we are at the eve of a "world-anshluss",,, the same foolish project has been resumed and neo-nazi are now clothed as communist,,,, Only Our Lady Mary will be able to save us from the oncoming tiranny
The most beautiful song in The Sound of Music. When I was a child in the mid-1960's, there was a neighborhood theater that ran The Sound of Music continuously for several years. It wasn't a multi-plex (they didn't exist in our city back then)...it was just a single theater. That's how important that movie was.
Christopher Plummer ... such a handsome man and a wonderful vocalist as well. Loved the Sound of Music. Austria is such a beautiful country and I am proud of my heritage. I wonder how many of the listeners sing along as I do ??? No one can ever replace Julie Andrews she is a star through and through.

I have a friend that served in the army in Germany. He said many Germans think that Edilweiss was and old German song. They would even say that they remembered it as a child. The song was actually written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for the movie.
We do not have such movies because Jewish producers got tired of teaching Roman Catholic morality to Protestant America. They wanted to peddle sex and filth.
I was 10 yrs old when I saw this movie in the Globe Theater in Calcutta, India. We dressed up for the movies then. At intermission, we went out to get snacks and use the bathroom. This film was so rich in content, romance, sweetness, drama, music, that it changed something in my core. Liesl and Maria were so beautiful, the Baroness too, the Captain so handsome, the story so enthralling, I could never forget it. And we sang those songs at home, I was always singing them, and I loved that yodeling song. Julie Andrews articulation was perfect. Thank you, Sound of Music. What a story!
I was ten years old when this masterpiece was released to the big screen. Our family of five didn't attend movies very often, however; this movie was so special we all dressed in our Sunday clothes. The scenery and cast will never get old. Watch it every year without fail. I was in awe of Angela Cartwright for quite a while after that.
I was even younger, but saw it and then saw it again when it was re-released on the big screen in the 1970s for a brief run - probably 1975. I had already developed such a crush on Julie Andrews - her elegant beauty, her voice, her British accent. I didn't even know at first that it was a British accent. I just thought she talked nice, and to this day I still favour RP British speech.
Same with me. I was nine, and our family of five made a memorable special trip into the big city cinema when it came out. My father and mother had previously taught us to sing Do a Deer as a party piece. I too fell for Angela Cartwright!
So you have to come to Austria (my Motherland) and you will see Austria is much more than Sound of Music. I saw this Film first when I was 21 years old (in the 90ies). I didn´t even know that this movie exists. :-) It is not very popular in Austria. Because it tells a lot of sterotypes. And every Austrian will kill you if you order "schnitzels with noodles" :-) Edelweiss is not the Anthem of Austria it is a protected flower in the Alps 🙂
I knew Angela from Lost in Space before I ever saw this movie, but I was always struck by her beauty, her poise, and her singing (she did a little singing on LiS). It's worth noting that Kym Karath, who played little Gretl, guest starred as an alien Princess in one episode! 🙂

I was not in the mood for a sentimental movie that evening almost 50 years ago but went to the theater anyway. About 10 seconds into the movie I was so drawn into the story, watched this masterpiece over 30 times . I go to the hills when my heart is lonely
I know I will hear what I've heard before
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music

Julie Andrew's is 1 of a kind. I really enjoy her voice and saw her at the Smith Center in LasVegas with the Sound of Music.
I was approximately a ur old when the film came out. When I was older I watched it in the cinema n was delighted endlessly by the songs n the beautiful landscapes. I walked out of the theatre with a spring in my step n the songs in my heart.
I was ten years old. I watch this film every holiday season and also have the video.
My favorite movie forever.

I brought this DVD home one Friday evening and my two children said I could never pick DVD's again, it was so old. They watched about 10 times that weekend. It was a first for me - a fantastic movie.
So heartwarming. I find myself watching this over several times.
Yes, very nostalgic, feel like crying, missing the goodness of old times
Music, the universal language!
I just cried through this whole song because it is so moving and I can hardly write this comment. The Sound of Music is the greatest movie ever made and I will cherish watching it for ever. Thank you to whoever put this on you Tube.
I am 65 years old and still watching it.
